Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.
Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
